Lean Practitioner Certification
(April-May 2025)
Important Lean Practitioner Certification Dates:
- April 1, Lunch & Learn Catchball Practice: Bring your A3. We'll partner up and practice catchball to give you another perspective on your A3.
- April 10, Lean Practitioner Certification Applications Due: Use this template which is your A3 plus a results and learning reflection.
- April 28, Lunch & Learn Practice Presenting Your A3: Bring your A3, we'll form small groups and practice presenting our A3's to prepare for the Lean Practitioner Celebration where you'll formally present your A3.
- May 7, Lean Practitioner Certification Celebration: Those getting certified will formally present their A3's. Even if you aren't getting certified this round, all are welcome to come celebrate. Mark your calendars for May 7th from 10:10 am-12:00 pm. We will send out a registration link closer to the event.
How Do I Get Certified?
Lean Practitioner Certification recognizes individual commitment to on-going personal Lean learning and practice.
You are eligible if you have:
- Participated in A3 Thinking Courses, Active Daily Engagement, or an equivalent Lean training (internal or external to UCSF) and...
- Tackled a problem by applying A3 Thinking, implemented at least one countermeasure, and have measurable results to share from it
How To Apply for FAS Lean Practitioner Certification:
Applications consist of 2 parts (templates below):
- Completed A3 (Word Document or Powerpoint)
- Results and Learnings

Submitting your Application
- Email your application to [email protected] and cc: [email protected] by April 10th
- Your application will be reviewed by the EPMO Lean Coaches
- An EPMO coach will reach out to you in about 2 weeks with any feedback or recommendations for revisions
- Finalize your application based on recommendations for revisions and resubmit (same as #1 above)
- 5 minute presentation of your A3 Improvement Project at the Lean Practitioner Certification Celebration scheduled on May 7, 2025.
